Supporters of the embattled director of Radio Biafra, Mr.
Nnamdi Kanu were yesterday arrested by the Anambra State police command at
various points in Awka as they embarked on protests in the state capital.
The protesters, including women, carrying placards with
various inscriptions, marched from Amawbia to the Government House, demanding
that Kanu be left alone. However, as they approached Government House, the
police men stationed at the place fired sporadically into the air and threw
teargas canisters to scare them.
Some of the members of another group protesting at the
Arroma junction were also picked by the police.
Update: According to an LL reader who is witnessing this at the
moment, there’s an ongoing protest in Port-Hacourt, Rumumasi market

42-old Horacio Rodriguez was shocked to discover the cause
of his chest pains; a toothpick lodged in his heart. He believes he swallowed
the toothpick while eating appetisers. He fell ill with a fever in January and
doctors said he had a heart infection and put him on antibiotics, but things
took a turn for the worse after he began losing weight, coughing up blood and
suffering pains so he sought a second help.
Scans revealed an object inside his heart, and surgeons at
Hospital Fernandez in Buenos Aires, Argentina, decided to operate to remove it.
They thought it might be a catheter which had been inserted when Mr Rodriguez
had a blood transfusion as a teenager.
But shockingly, during a seven hour operation, they were
stunned to find a whole toothpick in his heart, not broken and that was what
has been making him sick and losing weight. More photos...

These shocking photos were taken during the annual vegetarian festival
in Phucket, held at the ninth lunar month of the Chinese calendar.
Slitting open their cheeks and forcing everything from guns, to
electrical wire, to giant knives and even axes through the holes, were
part of the ritual.
Most of the festival-goers, devotees of the Chinese Samkong shrine and
the Chinese Ban Tha Rue shrine, choose to force weaponry through their
cheeks, but others seem to have opted for anything they can find around
their homes.

A family of a deceased woman have suspended her burial rites until her ‘husband’ who she was living with, performs her wedding rites.
The woman, Chinyere Mbam, died from a snake bite she sustained while returning from the wake-keep of her friend, Oge Ogashi.
She was taken to a traditional healing home in the area for treatment and thereafter back to the husband’s home where she died.
Her uncle, Ishiali Ikwe, confirmed her death.
But the deceased’s family have mandated her partner, Stephen Mbam, of Enyi Igwe Village, Ezzainyimagu community in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State to carry out her traditional marriage rites before she is buried.
It was learnt that the woman had been living with Stephen for three years and their relationship produced a child even though he did not perform marriage rites.
According to the Uncle, the family, who are from same village, have put the burial on hold until Mr. Mbam performs traditional marriage on the deceased.
He further said that Mbam’s family, in line with the tradition, have scheduled a date for payment of the bride price to be preceded by the wedding.
